Our Centre for Indigenous Healing of Trauma opened on
Friday 7 February 2025!

The Centre focusses on:

  • Survivors of any type of psychological trauma, in particular, queer/ LGBTQIA+ people and/ or survivors of gender-based violence and other intersecting marginalisations
  • Survivors of racism, especially in educational institutions in South Africa, going back to experiences of the ‘model C’ schools in the early 1990s and private schools
  • Intergenerational trauma
  • Indigenous, decolonial feminist approaches to healing
  • A wide range of healing modalities including dietary and lifestyle changes, trauma-sensitive Yoga (including asanas, breathing exercises, meditation and other components), marma therapy, as well as community and art-based therapies
  • The aim is to equip you with foundational knowledge and skills, so that you can be empowered and continue the self-care practices by yourself in the long-term, and hopefully share these practices with others. We seek to develop resilience, deepen resistance to oppressive societal structures and attain liberation that allows a re-imagining of individual and collective existence

Logistical details:

  • The Centre will be open on Fridays only
  • Sessions are a maximum of an hour and a half and all sessions are held online
  • In order to cover all the components of the self-care healing framework, approximately 12 sessions are recommended. A total of 15 sessions would be best to allow for additional time for reinforcement
  • You can book an individual session or a group session (maximum of four people)
  • Since the Centre is open on Fridays only, there are a limited number of sessions that can be booked and a waiting list will be used
